Abstract:Objective Objective To investigate the correlation between adiposity index and bone mineral density(BMD) at various sites in postmenopausal women.Methods BMD data (L1~4 ,total hip and femoral neck) were collected from 1229 postmenopausal women who underwent physical examination at the Medical Examination Centre of Kunshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from June 2019 to November 2020.Data on the adiposity index of various body parts were collected.According to body mass index (BMI),the patients were divided into normal weight group (18.5 kg/m2≤BMI<24 kg/m2) and overweight group (BMI≥24 kg/m2).There were 526 cases in the normal group,with an age range of 48 to 91 years and a mean age of (65.43±9.14)years.There were 703 cases in the overweight group,with an age range of 48 to 86 years and a mean age of (65.33±8.58)years.One-way ANOVA as well as multiple regression analysis were used to explore the correlation between adiposity index and BMD in postmenopausal women at various sites.Results Super-reconstructed L1~4 BMD,femoral neck BMD and total hip BMD were all higher than those in the normal weight group (P<0.001).Super-recombinant L1~4 BMD was negatively correlated with whole body adiposity index (P<0.001) and positively correlated with Android adiposity index (P<0.001).Total hip BMD was negatively correlated with whole body adiposity index (P=0.006).Femoral neck BMD was not significantly correlated with all parts of body adiposity index (P>0.05).In the normal weight group,L1~4 BMD was negatively correlated with total body fat index (P=0.016) and positively correlated with trunk fat index (P<0.001).Total hip and femoral neck BMD were not significantly correlated with total body fat index (P>0.05).Conclusion The results of this study suggest that there is a correlation between local body fat distribution and BMD in postmenopausal women,and that appropriate functional exercise and control of fat rate may be beneficial in reducing bone loss,especially in postmenopausal overweight women.
