Abstract Objective To evaluate the accurancy and reliability of a measurement method of corrected body height by comparing three methods in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Methods Digital photos of standing a-p radiographs of the spine were obtained from 30 patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis under the same condition.Cobb’s angle was measured and documented.the corrected body height can be calculated using manual measurement method,computer-aided measurement method and Bjure equation respectively. In order to assess the accuracy of the computer-aided measurement method, results of the means and standard deviations which calculated using three methods were compared between the three groups. And to compare intra-observer reliability, measurements were carried out two times on two different occasions by the same orthopaedist. The interval between measurements was four weeks.Three orthopaedists performed the measurements independently in order to compare inter-observer reliability. Results There were no difference between the results of corrected body height caculated by manual measurement method and computer-aided measurement method. The results of corrected body height which caculated by methods of manual measurement method and computer-aided measurement method were all different significantly in comparison with the Bjure equation (P<0.05).Intraclass correlations for intraobserver and interobserver agreements in the computer-aided measurement method of corrected body height were 0.998 and 0.977 respectively. Conclusion Compared to the manual measurement method, the computer-aided measurement method of calculation of corrected body height in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is simple, accurate and reliable.
