Efficacy of Psychological Intervention in the Context of Major Public Health Emergencies (COVID-19 epidemic) to Improve Chronic Neck and Lower Back Pain in Medical Staff

Abstract:Objective To explore the incidence of chronic neck and low back pain,the degree of psychological pressure changes and the correlation between the two in response to major public health emergency(COVID-19 epidemic),and further investigate the impact of psychological intervention on the chronic neck and back pain of medical staff.Methods The medical team of Ruijin Hospital to Hubeifrom January 2020 to June 2020 was selected as the observation group,with 2 males and 49 females;the ages were 27~38 years,with an average of (33.73±4.45).The other medical team not aiding Hubei served as the control group,with 1 male and 56 females;the ages were 26~39 years,with an average of (32.25±6.79).Cross-sectional surveys were conducted by questionnaires.The incidence and degree of cervical and low back pain (JOA score,ODI score,NDI score,VAS score) and psychological score (SAS score) were compared between the two groups,and the correlation between psychological factors and the degree of cervical and low back pain was analyzed.After psychological intervention in the observation group,the effect of psychological intervention measures on alleviating the chronic neck and low back pain of medical staff was studied before and after.Results Compared with the control group,the incidence,degree and psychological score of cervical and low back pain in the observation group increased,and there was statistical significance (P<0.05);and it was found that the psychological score had a significant positive correlation with the degree of cervical and low back pain.In addition,effective psychological intervention could improve the psychological state of medical staff,thereby alleviating the degree of neck and low back pain.Conclusion In response to major public health emergencies,medical staff will have a certain psychological pressure change,which will lead to the occurrence and development of chronic neck and low back pain.And effective psychological intervention can significantly improve the aggravation of chronic neck and low back pain caused by psychological factors.This will help medical staff better respond to major public health emergencies.
