Abstract Objective To evaluate the changes of quality of life before and after hip fractures in old patients,using the five-dimensional instrument of Euro Qol questionnaire(EQ-5D).Methods A total of 82 elderly patients with hip fractures were selected retrospectively in this study.The quality of life was investigated using the EQ-5D questionnaire in different periods.The EQ-5D index and visual analogue scale scores(VAS) were recorded.Results The EQ-5D index and VAS scores were significantly improved one year after hip surgery,compared with that after hip fractured.Decreased of quality of life was related with the age and the complications before injured.The gender and surgical methods had few effects on the quality of life one year after hip surgery.Conclusion The quality of life is significantly decreased after hip fractured,and it is improved by surgeries.To avoide decreasing of the quality of life,it is essential to prevent from hip fractures.
